Facts of Interest: 1. He was part of the 1955 Union County High School basketball team that became the program's and the school's first ever region/district championship team in school history. He was known as 1 of the seniors known as the "Fighting 5 of 55". 2. He once ran his step-father's furniture store business known as "Penland's Furniture" following his step-father's sudden and unexpected death. The store occupied the space where Rebecca's On The Square sits today. 3. He was Chairman of the Metropolitan Atlanta Olympic Games Authority(MAOGA) for the 1996 Centennial Olympics where he was over govermental and financial oversight for the planning and management of the event(s). 4. He served as Vice-President of Cousins Properties, LLC. out of Atlanta. One of the cities largest and most famous property firms. 5. He was one of the few who welcomed Nelson Mandela when he came to visit the City of Atlanta.
